Gettysburg Mayor Chad-Alan Carr resigned in the afternoon of March 3. Gettysburg Borough Council President Matthew Moon, who is now serving as the interim mayor, announced the news earlier today. He stated that the Council accepted Carr’s resignation and wishes him well as he pursues a resolution to his personal legal issues.
The Borough Council will vote to officially accept Carr’s resignation during its upcoming Business Meeting on Monday, March 9. After which, the Borough Code stipulates that members have 30 days to decide how to select a new mayor. The chosen Mayor will serve until the next Municipal Election in November 2027.
Carr announced his campaign for Mayor in Feb. 2025, where he challenged the previous Mayor, Rita Frealing. After a tight race, he won by 185 votes. Since being sworn in, Carr has kept busy, holding Office Hours in the College Union Building and attending a Student Senate Meeting.
Previously, Carr served as an At-Large Council Member on the Borough Council. He is also the founding executive and artistic director at the Gettysburg Community Theater located at 49 York St. Currently, his Facebook page and campaign website have been removed.
