On Friday, Vice President for Enrollment and Educational Services Carey Thompson announced Troy Dell ’95 as the new Executive Director of Athletics and Recreation in a campus-wide email. Troy is returning to his alma mater after an 18-year tenure as Director of Athletics at Frostburg State University. In that position, he oversaw 25 varsity sports, intramural and club sports, and an Activities for Life program that delivered more than 20 community fitness and wellness programs. Additionally, he achieved several notable accomplishments, such as Frostburg’s transition from NCAA Division III to Division II.
Prior to his time at Frostburg, Dell served as Assistant Director of Athletics at Gettysburg from 2002 to 2007 while simultaneously head-coaching the Wrestling team from 1997 to 2007. During his undergraduate years, he was a standout wrestler who obtained a bachelor’s degree in history. Afterwards, he attended McDaniel College for a Master of Science in exercise science and physical education.
“Troy’s ambitious vision aligns with Gettysburg’s aspirations to provide a championship-level experience, and he is widely recognized throughout the NCAA for his accomplishments in strategic planning, facility improvement, fundraising, and student-athlete success,” stated Thompson. “His colleagues describe him as a dedicated and emotionally intelligent leader who is deeply committed to the success of student-athletes both inside and outside the classroom.”
For the Bullets Athletics webpage, Dell added, “I want to thank President Iuliano, Carey [Thompson], and the entire search committee for the opportunity to return to my alma mater. There is great pride in being a Bullet….I’m honored to return and work with today’s student-athletes and look forward to collaborating across campus as well as with the alumni and friends of the College.”
Dell is scheduled to begin his new position in mid-Aug.
