Gettysburg Fire Department Responds to Smoke in McKnight Hall: Normal Operations Resumed

By Brandon Fey, Editor-in-Chief

On Monday evening, Executive Director of Campus Safety and Associate Dean of College Life Alex Wiltz sent an email to the College community explaining that there had been a fire response in McKnight Hall earlier that afternoon.

Wiltz stated that Campus Safety had responded to a smoke alarm in the building around 5:30 p.m. and evacuated those inside before calling Adams County 911. He explained that the size and design of the building necessitate a large fire response protocol, which is why several fire vehicles responded.

Gettysburg Fire Department responded around 6:18 p.m. and determined that the smoke was caused by a malfunctioning piece of machinery.

He reported that there were no injuries, and that both Facilities Services and the fire department confirmed that the building is safe to use.

Normal operations have since resumed in the building.
