The Center for Global Education (CGE) has recently announced a new study abroad program in Bonn, Germany for the spring semester 2026.
Yesterday, CGE, along with nonprofit organization AiB Bonn, hosted an information session advertising the opportunity for students from Gettysburg College to study abroad in Bonn, the secondary capital in Germany and a city often referred to as the “world capital of climate protection and sustainability.” The presentation was led by German studies associate professor Henning Wrage who showcased everything Bonn had to offer and courses students could take while there.

Heavy emphasis was placed on Bonn’s international status as a city with twenty United Nations institutions in it. Students traveling to Bonn would not have to worry about being fluent in German due to its high-percentage of English-speaking locals and the close presence of Gettysburg staff.
“You can get around in Bonn with English alone,” said Wrage. “So don’t be afraid if you are lost in Bonn, because there is always the resident director to help you out. Bonn is a very, very international city.”
Bonn is a city that is very eco-friendly, with large bike paths on several streets as well as several parks spread throughout the city, providing much for students to do in their leisure time.
“I can help you with planning your curriculum,” said Wrage. “It is a four-course semester. I will individually meet with you to plan to see the kind of requirements that you need to fulfill, what kind of courses you need for your major and minor and how we can make this happen.”
Wrage himself plans to teach a class focusing on environmentalism and how technology has changed people’s outlook on the topic over the past century, although there will be additional courses in business, coding, art history, animation and much more.
“The course I teach is called ‘Machines, Monsters, and Moonscapes’,” said Wrage. “It’s an environmental humanities course, and what I want to do with you is to actually have a look at how technology in civilization but also environmental destruction becomes a part of culture in the 20th and 21st centuries.”
The application deadline for spring 2026 study abroad is October 1. Interested students are encouraged to contact Wrage for more information.
