A Note from the Editor: On This Labor of Love

Dear Reader,

Thank you for grabbing a copy of The Gettysburgian. I am the Magazine Editor— the one who orders, edits, and designs the contents of this very magazine. Once every month, the editorial board and our wonderful writers get together to produce this. It is a labor of love from dozens of volunteers. Then, it is my job to elevate the design and style to make something that you, dear reader, want to spend your time with.

My path to The Gettysburgian has been a unique one, to say the least. Last year, I was the Director of Photography, but the years before that, I had never interacted with the publication before. I was offered the position of Director of Photography at a strange time for me and for The Gettysburgian. I said yes, of course, and the year and change since has been absolutely spectacular. I have learned more about journalism and storytelling than I could have ever hoped. But I also learned a great deal about the value of diving head-first into something. I have given hundreds of hours into this club, and it has given me so much more in return.

This edition of the magazine attempts to express what the Gettysburg College experience is. You will find a story about the administrative assistants that keep the college together, features with two very notable faculty members, a debate around the role of celebrities, my story about the history of the fourth hour requirement, and so much more. I hope you get as much out of this magazine as we put into it.

I am, as always, proud of what we have managed to put together within these pages. I wanted to thank everyone who agreed to be interviewed for this publication, every writer who contributed, the editorial board for working so hard to put this together, and you, the reader. Without you, we wouldn’t do any of this. Thank you.
