On Wednesday, Sept. 10, the Office of Student Activities and Greek Life (OSAGL) hosted the Fall Activities Fair on Stine Lake from 5 to 7 p.m. to showcase over 100 clubs and campus organizations for students to join.
The semesterly activities fair is an opportunity for students to represent their organizations and recruit new members, particularly first-years.
“It’s really important for first-years to get their foot in the door and get involved on campus with things they are passionate about,” said Sophia Dotterweich ’27, who was tabling for the Gettysburg College chapter of Amnesty International, of which she is president. “The hope is that they will come out and sign up for things that interest them. It is nice to see them getting involved in campus life.”
The fair also offered the opportunity for new organizations to showcase themselves. One such club was “The Yappuccino Society,” which aims to build discourse among students.
“We wanted to create a club that would connect people by making them share the kinds of media that they’re interested in, when a lot of people sometimes feel nervous about doing that,” commented co-presidents Madison ’27 and Jillian Bick ’27.
The society was among the many clubs that populated the pathways around Stine Lake, arranged by subject and focus. Dining Services also offered free ice cream to students upon check-in.
OSAGL will host its corresponding Spring Activities Fair at the beginning of next semester, which will give organizations another opportunity to present to the campus community.
