On Friday, the new campus bar and eatery in the basement of the Plank Gym was officially opened as a social space from 8 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.

The site offers all Gettysburg students complimentary beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, as well as snacks for purchase including popcorn, pretzels and nachos. New tables and chairs have been placed outside the new bar and down the hallway of Plank basement.

The new bar is located in Plank 103, the former office of The Gettysburgian, which has moved to Plank 116.

The bar and eatery will be open on Friday and Saturday evenings throughout the school year, staffed by trained student bartenders. Students 21 and older are allowed a total of five alcoholic beverages an evening, available an hour at a time.

“I love the bartenders and think they’re great,” commented Mia McHugh ’25. “It’s also very economical to come here because you get five free drinks a night,” she said.

The bar was installed over winter break as part of a larger facilities upgrade initiative announced in October, which will also see renovations made to the College Union Ballroom and some first-year residence halls. Additionally, the bar will be joined by an outdoor beer garden that is planned to open after spring break.

Paul Zaim ’28 shared his thoughts on the new campus space, saying: “It’s a nice addition to the social scene on campus and a great option for students to be on a Friday and Saturday night.”
