By Zion Williams, Staff Writer

Gettysburg men’s lacrosse, ranked 6th in the last United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) poll, ground out an 11-9 win against number 17 Stevenson this past Saturday to bring their record on the season to 2-1.

Quinton Mather ’24 opened the scoring for the Bullets after a stint of possession with 11:56 left in the first quarter. He lasered his shot into the upper right corner of the net from just over 10 yards out. Stevenson then tied the game under two minutes later, and the Mustangs took the lead shortly after with a shot from the far right of the field that snuck into the net.

However, the first quarter ended tied at 2-2 after Jack Dunleavy ’25 took the ball from behind the goal, spun a defender, and placed the ball into the bottom corner of the net. The Bullets extended their lead to 4-2 in the second quarter after goals from Charlie Johnson ’27 and Dunleavy.

Stevenson battled back and tied the game again, scoring two goals less than a minute apart. The Bullets were able to score three more goals in the quarter though, in which Stevenson only responded to one. Gettysburg outscored Stevenson 5-3 in the second quarter, which ended 7-5 in favor of the Bullets.

Stevenson scored early in the third quarter with a scoop and score, but less than twenty seconds later, Will Hedley ’26 secured a loose ball from behind the net and passed to Ethan Kessler‘’26, who slotted it home from five yards out to put the Bullets up 8-6.

The Mustangs scored to make it 8-7 with 7:24 remaining in the third quarter, but Johnson helped the Bullets to a two-point lead a minute and a half later. Gettysburg went on to extend their lead to 10-7, which ended the third quarter.

Stevenson exhibited signs of life when they won the face-off, drove into Bullets’ territory, and scored a goal six seconds into the last quarter. However, two minutes later, Mather restored the lead to three after zipping a ball into the back of the net from 15 yards out.
