Campus Safety Expands Student Parking to Employee Lots During “Open Times”

By Laken Franchetti, News Editor

On Monday, Executive Director of Campus Safety Alex Wiltz sent a campus-wide email detailing new parking lot hours that were enacted for student use of employee parking.

Students are now allowed to park in employee parking lots during non-peak hours.  These non-peak hours are described as “open times,” and these times include from Monday to Thursday at 5 p.m. to 6 a.m. as well as from Friday at 5 p.m. to Monday at 6 a.m.

The admissions lot is not to be included in this open parking plan, and Carlisle Street lots are restricted to Carlisle Street student parking passes.  Student vehicles must be removed from the employee parking lots by 6 a.m. Monday through Friday or else they will be issued a citation.

“We are starting with opening all parking lots, however if we observe non-compliance with students not moving their vehicles by 6am, we will remove open hours on those lots,” said Wiltz.

He concluded the email by stating his hope that opening these lots will make it easier to access campus, particularly on the weekend.  Questions about this policy are to be sent to parking@gettysburg.edu.
