Mandatory Campus-Wide Quarantine After College Reaches High Alert Level

By Jane Fitzpatrick, Assistant News Editor and Nicole DeJacimo, Content Producer

Gettysburg College is now at a high alert level and will enact a campus-wide quarantine starting at 10 PM tonight after 25 of 348 tests received this week came back positive, according to an email from Dean Ramsey. These protocols will be in place at least through the end of this week.

“It appears that most—but not all—of these positive cases relate to the previously identified clustered incidents,” Ramsey said, explaining that the college tested specific affinity groups and certain residence halls along with randomly selected students for surveillance testing.

All students will be attending classes remotely and those who have not already been placed into quarantine will only be permitted to leave their rooms to use the restrooms, obtain their meals, and report for their assigned COVID-19 test appointments.

The College advises all students to remain on campus and not return home unless necessary and to fill out this form if they choose to do so. In-person student employment will immediately cease until the end of the campus shutdown and working from home, if possible, is encouraged.

Students are encouraged to review the school’s  COVID-19 emotional wellness resources located on the college website.

  2. It doesn’t make sense that when there were only 5000 cases of Covid-19 in the country the whole country was closed down. Now with over 6 million cases every thing is open !!!!!!!!
