Senior field hockey captain Samantha Wright scored two of the three Gettysburg goals that lit the scoreboard in Saturday’s face-off against Swarthmore College.

Wright played 70 minutes of Saturday’s game, which marks a new season high for the forward.

These two shots brought Wright to a team-best total of seven goals for the season. The stat also places Wright in a tie for eighth place in the Centennial Conference for total goals. Wright also ties for ninth in the conference for total points at 17.

Since her first year at Gettysburg, the forward has appeared in nearly all games played by the team. This season, she averages 0.78 goals per game, a personal best, and 3.56 shots per game.

Wright has continually made the news due to her aggressive success on the field. Of the nine games played, Wright has had news-worthy influence in five.

As one of the three captains on the team, Wright leads both on and off the field.

Halfway through the fall season, Wright appears to bring her all for her last year in orange and blue. Her current stats top some from previous full seasons. She has already surpassed her season goals from 2013 and 2014, and she needs only one more to tie her personal best of eight from last year.

Wright’s shot percentage of 0.219 surpasses those from 2014 and 2015, approaching her first year’s 0.273 record.

Wright’s consistency and offensive success as a forward warrants her the title of The Gettysburgian’s Athlete of the Week.
