Submissions are now welcome for the College’s fourth annual Photo of the Day contest.

Two prizes — each a 250 dollar gift certificate to the College Bookstore — will be offered this year. The People’s Choice winner will be selected via an online poll; voting will begin Sept. 8. The Editors’ Choice winner will be chosen by a panel of experts on campus. Winners will be announced in conjunction with Homecoming, which begins Sept. 28.

Anyone can enter. Images received through Sept. 4 will be eligible and may be posted as Photo of the Day before then. Submissions are limited to one image per person.

Submissions must be related to the College, but potential subject matter is as wide as your imagination: an informal gathering of alumni in Cancun or Connecticut, a family at Commencement, activities on campus, experiences while studying abroad or a nostalgic shot of campus in days gone by.

Send jpg. attachments (the bigger, the better, but images should be at least 4-by-6 inches at 300 dpi) to POD@gettysburg.edu with caption information that identifies individuals (including class/parent year if applicable) and describes the event and location pictured. Please include “POD Contest Entry” in your subject line. Please do not submit photos taken by anyone other than yourself.

Visitgettysburg.edu and click on Photo of the Day every day for the latest image, or browse the archive. Submissions must meet the regular guidelines for Photo of the Day.

Once the online poll begins, votes will be strictly limited to one per email address. Repeat votes will not count.

An image of Penn Hall amidst autumn beauty was last year’s winner of the People’s Choice award. Senior Ashleigh Zicker submitted the shot.

Lyndsie Guy, ‘12, won last year’s “Editors’ Choice” award with a shot she took while working as a Heston intern during the summer of 2010 (below). Guy was an English teacher at a primary school in Nakayiba, Uganda, where one of her students paused to gather her thoughts while working on a creative writing assignment.
