Bullets football won a home game on Saturday against Western Connecticut State University with a final score of 34-28.
Western Connecticut scored in the first quarter after a nine-play, 78-yard drive and missed the extra point kick.
The Bullets scored 17 points the next quarter with a 27-yard field goal by kicker Issac Parks-Gill and two touchdowns from wide receivers Gabriel Diaz and Edison Case.
After a 28-yard Bullets field goal to begin the third quarter, Western Connecticut scored a 5-yard touchdown, to be answered by a Bullets 1-yard touchdown off of a direct snap.
In the final quarter, Western Connecticut scored a 7-yard touchdown run that was followed by a 26-yard touchdown catch by Bullets wide receiver Danny Bonato. Western Connecticut then scored a 1-yard touchdown run, followed by a 2-point conversion catch.
Gettysburg won with a final score of 34-28.
Coach Green’s Comments
Head Coach Michael Green provided comments on the victory.
“Our team found a way to fight for a victory,” he said. “Finding a way to win is an important piece of our changing culture. Just one game prior, we gave up a lead late in the game. It was good to see the offense execute to keep the lead as Western Connecticut scored. Then the defense came up with a key stop to secure the victory. We are still working on staying focused and executing for the full 60 minutes of the game. It’s exciting that our best football is still ahead.
“The three key plays of the game were the final score from the offense to challenge Western Connecticut with less than 8 minutes left in the game, the 50-yard punt to pin the opposing offense at the 7 with 3:03 left, and the 4th-and-10 pass break-up to secure the victory.
“It’s exciting for the whole program to have a 40-point swing in margin of victory from last year’s game with Western Connecticut. Although we feel we could’ve had a more significant win if we executed in some key situations.
“We are happy to get our first home win and to get a second victory of the season. Although we’ve challenged the team to stay hungry and go back to work, as there are seven more games and our best opponents to come,” commented Green.
