The Gettysburg College Student Senate provided the following minutes. Besides formatting, they have not been edited in any way. 

Officer Reports 

President Duquette 

• Committee Assignments  

• • If you were assigned to a committee and have any issues with it, please bring it up to the President & VP ASAP. 

• AI Initiative Job Opening  

• • There is a new paid student position open for Gettysburg’s AI Leadership Team. The College is looking for students from any class year or major who are interested in helping shape how Gettysburg approaches and uses AI. This is not a technical position. It is more focused on student leadership, gathering student perspectives, organizing listening sessions and events, and working directly with faculty and administrators on the AI Initiative. 

• • The position is about 6–10 hours per week at $11.50 an hour and starts October 19. Applications are due October 2, so if you are interested in AI or want to have a voice in how the College approaches it, I definitely encourage you to apply. – IF you have further questions, reach out to Professor Richard Russell; Professor Richard Russell: rrussell@gettysburg.edu

Vice President Bumps 

• Overview of Positions, Committees and Expectations 

• • Defines Senators – elected by class year, 4 per year, voting members, represent their class  

• •  Senators at Large – 7 total, represent whole student body, voting members  

• • AGLs – elected by members of affinity groups (clubs with shared interests), representing the interests of their group of clubs, voting members  

• • Committee Chairs – chair Senate committees; unless they are a senator, they do not have a vote in the Senate 

• • All those with voting power must attend committee meetings and Senate meetings. If any questions about expectations, contact VP Bumps.  

• Ralph Caveliere Award. 

• • Presented annually during Fall Honors Day to a full-time faculty member who exhibits excellence in teaching.  

• • Students can nominate any full-time faculty members; we will vote on the nominees as a Senate once the form is concluded

• Silent Leader Award 

• • The Silent Leader Award is presented annually to a student who demonstrates exceptional and sustained dedication to enacting change through service.  The recipient of this award does not accept the world as it stands but rather actively challenges ideological societal constructions in an incessant pursuit of equity.  In doing so, this person’s work is broad-reaching and engages the campus, the community, and often the world at large. 

• • The Silent Leader Award is given in Memory of Emily Silverstein ’11.  Emily was a passionate member of the campus community and a fervent advocate for peace.  To carry forward Emily’s dream of a more just world, the Silent Leader also receives a financial award to act on or to pursue further education about critical social justice issues. 

• • The Center for Public Service is accepting nominations until 4 pm on Friday, September 25, 2026.  The Silent Leader Award will be presented during Fall Honors Day on October 30th.

Club Reports & Announcements 

• History club guest speaker in Glat 001, Glat Basement 001 on Tuesday, 9/15 

• EI tabling this week for Democracy Week; raffles and prizes available.  

• CUB 230, 7 PM- 8 PM Listeners and Performers club meeting: welcomes all to stop by  

• Nutrition club tabling Thursday, partnering with small business dairy-free ice cream. 

• Blood Drive at Gettysburg Outlets this Friday  

• Colleges Against Cancer hosting Pink Out game tailgate this Saturday 

• Tri Sigma Roast out hunger against frats, tabling daily in frats  

• SMUT general meeting Friday 8:30-9:30 

Student Concerns 

• Servo concerns have been dealt with/discussed 

• Cold bar glass too low (difficult to reach)- they are working with the vendors to change these to make them better in compliance with health code.  

• Dining is looking into purchasing a 2nd panini press after the last one broke.  

• Bullet soup rotation  

• Facilities: no algae update; rail surrounding field has been labeled as a tripping hazard, cheerleading displacement 

• Current concerns  

• • Chicken Torta Special at Bullet – Abe’s Faves 

• • Bullet – Root: lack of sweet potatoes and broccoli rarity  

• • More printers on campus  

• • Stapler in Quantitative Learning Center  

• • Possible inquiry about color printer and costs of that  

• • Hornet hive in GLC Ropes Course Pavilion  

• • Hanson: lack of screens on windows 

• • Servo ran out of Greek Yogurt over the weekend  

• • Servo blocked off loads of seating

Budget Requests 

• Men’s Club Volleyball (tabled from last meeting)  

• • Requested $2000: $1000 for league membership dues, $150 for equipment, $600 for registration fees, and $250 in transportation fees; BMC recommended $1375 

• • Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Club Volleyball Team, base registration fee is $1,000 

• • Spring is competition season; fall is friendly tournaments  

• • Lack of campus rec club/intramural team funding; President and VP will be meeting with director soon to discuss 

• • No solid roster, aiming for 15-16 players  

• • Motion to pass BMC recommended amount of $1,375: motion passes.  

• Student Musical Theater (SMUT) 

• • Requested $ 2,085 in total; BMC recommended $1,565 for rights only 

• • $1,565 for rights to musical, $150 for makeup, $45 for marketing funds, $200 for set design, $125 for costumes and props 

• • Wanting to put on “Be More Chill”  

• • The theatre department is only putting on plays this year, so this will be the only musical possible. 

• • This is their anchor event along with Rocky Horror Picture Show
