On Monday, the Eisenhower Institute (EI) announced that applications will open on February 23, 2026 for its Inside Civil Rights program, a week-long immersive study trip taking place May 11–15 in Memphis, TN and Little Rock, AR.
Inside Civil Rights connects key moments of the Civil Rights Movement to ongoing efforts to advance racial justice and policy change. Through site visits, guided discussions, and experiential learning, students explore how the legacy of the movement continues to shape conversations about equity, democracy, and civic engagement today.
This year’s theme, “The Politics of Remembrance,” invites students to consider not only what happened during the mid-20th century Civil Rights Movement, but also how communities remember, preserve, and interpret that history. The program includes visits to historic sites and cultural institutions in Memphis, TN and Little Rock, AR, where students will examine how public memory is shaped by individuals, institutions, and civic investments.
The program is open to first-year, sophomore, and junior students and is offered free of charge. All applicants must attend an information session prior to applying. Sign up to attend the session on February 23, 2026 from 5-6PM in Glatfelter to 303 on Engage.
Applications close on March 1, 2026 at 11:59 PM. Read the full program description here. Students are encouraged to contact ei@gettysburg.edu with any questions.
