This morning, the Gettysburg Athletic Department announced the hiring of Michael Green as the next head coach of the football team. This announcement comes two months following the firing of former head coach Maurice Banks.
Green comes from the Liberty League, where he most recently served as the Defensive Coordinator for Hobart William Smith.
A 2014 graduate and former center for the Statesman, Green has over a decade of experience on both sides of the ball.
In his first six seasons as a coach for the Statesman, Green served as offensive line coach before shifting to the role of defensive coordinator. As defensive coordinator, Green’s defense has been top 25 in pass efficiency defense and scoring defense in 2021 and 2023.
In 2025, Green’s defense allowed 17 or fewer points in seven of the team’s eleven games.
Green not only has found success on the field but he has also helped his students find success off it. He did this for three seasons as the team’s academic success coordinator, helping 52 different players to All-Academic Liberty League honors.
Michael Green will step into the position beginning this spring 2026 as the Bullets prepare for their 2026 campaign.
