In their home opening non-conference match, Gettysburg took on Shippensburg University, resulting in a 23-15 Raiders win over the Bullets. Shippensburg secured the advantage early in the first four matches of the evening.

Captains Gavin Pascoe ’27, Phil Nave ’26, and Ethan Composto ’27 were standouts for the Bullets. Pascoe made his opponent fall in the middle of the third period by a 20-4 margin while Nave pushed the Bullets’ overall score forward with a win of 12-6, and Composto earned an advantage and secured a 10-2 win.

Simon Taylor ’26 secured the team’s 15-point overall standing, earning a 4-1 win.

When asked about the strategies and regimen to prepare Gettysburg for the opener,

Head Coach Brad Brosius stressed the importance of focusing on the “fundamentals” of the sport.

“We have certain fundamental things that we like to emphasize,” said Brosius. “Every opponent is different, so you basically have to stick to fundamentals.”

Early in the season, Gettysburg placed second out of fifteen in their two consecutive invitationals and secured a win at King’s College in a non-conference match.

Coach Brosius said, “We’re really happy” in reference to the team’s progression and overall performance this season so far.

Meanwhile, Composto had many positive takeaways from the home opener.

“Lots of good effort from everyone on the team [during tonight’s match], everyone was giving one hundred percent,” said Composto.

Composto pointed to the team’s great “intensity” and “work ethic” that translate directly to the mat in their matches.
