On Nov. 11, 2025, the Gettysburg College Department of English hosted an internship panel and Q&A session in Breidenbraugh Hall 307 featuring alumna Noelle Muni ‘24 and current students Cassidy Haines ‘26, Ella Prieto ‘26 and Savannah Warfel ‘27, who discussed their internship experiences and offered advice on preparing for professional opportunities.
Muni, employed in production at HarperCollins, detailed her progression from a temporary position to full-time employment, attributing her success in establishing valuable industry connections to Gettysburg’s Center for Career Engagement (CCE). She specified HarperCollins’ internship offerings, which encompass summer opportunities in New York, NY, and Nashville, TN, in addition to abbreviated, part-time spring internships.
Haines shared her experience as a remote journalism intern for The Long Island Press, where she wrote and published about 10 articles. Prieto talked about her internship at a feminist leadership organization in Berlin, Germany, and later at the
Housing Authority of Chester County, where she got experience in cultural communication and public policy. Warfel said that she taught eighth-grade literature through the Breakthrough Collaborative, a program that supports underrepresented students preparing for higher education.
The Q&A session was marked by an exchange of ideas between panelists and students on the topics of internship applications, CVs and persistence. The speakers pointed out that GPA is less important in terms of getting internships compared to graduate school, and suggested that students should focus on participating in extracurricular activities, writing tailored cover letters and showing that they have been involved with organizations or jobs for a long time. In addition, they advised the applicants to keep in touch with the employers they applied to and to look for professional networking opportunities, both inside the university and on LinkedIn.
Panelists concluded by encouraging students to take advantage of the Center for Career Engagement’s resources, including job shadowing and site visits.
