Approval of Minutes
- Motion passed.
Guest Speaker – Gavin Foster, Chief Information Officer
- Information technology assisted over 300 students register over 400 devices during first year orientation. Device registration is a complicated process.
- Created tool in CNAV to find what devices are registered to the student.
- Reengineering network to remove dissolvable agent, allowing students to just enter their Gettysburg email address, and use validation link. This will allow more devices on wifi. This process will be complete in May 2026.
- Students are using about 3.0 gigabytes at their most busy points, on a network that can run up to 17.0 gigabytes.
- New air conditioners in first year halls were conflicting with the internet, which has been mostly resolved.
- IT will be sending out a student survey on the registration process, speed, coverage / dead spots, and GTech. This will help the IT department make the changes needed to resolve issues in the network.
- Mr. Foster proposed an IT Subcommittee with the Student Senate to resolve the blind spots on technology issues on campus.
- Questions
- Are the wifi upgrades complete?
- Yes.
- The claim made earlier was that the reason the wifi was not working in past months was because the wifi was not yet set up. Why is it that now that the renovation is complete, this has not been resolved?
- The reason depends on the device. Communicating with the IT office allows them to determine the actual issues.
- Are there plans for devices like TVs and video games systems to be on the wifi instead of ethernet?
- Yes, by May 2026.
- Can Alexa’s be paired to the wifi?
- Not currently, but ideally by May 2026.
- Are the wifi upgrades complete?
