On Tuesday, President Bob Iuliano announced the dates for the remaining sessions of the Conversations for Change program, aiming at dialogue to “create one Gettysburg community.” The sessions are being held in light of the incident in which a racist slur was cut into the body of another student in September.

With the partnership of Jason Craige Harris of the Perception Institute, the College ran “programs focused on race, accountability, and repair” based on the discussions had during campus meetings after the incident.

Then, Iuliano gave a brief summary of the first session of the program, which was a dialogue between students, faculty, and staff across campus to discuss how the college can improve campus culture. Then, participants talked in small groups about “transformative power of belonging and the persistent influence of racial othering in our world.”

Each session, according to Iuliano, will be led by Harris and made for people with varying types of experiences.

Session 2 will be held on Jan. 25 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Atrium, and is tailored to “anyone who has had a personal lived experience of prejudice and wants things to change.”

Session 3 will be held on March 18 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the CUB Ballroom “for those who do not have personal lived experiences of prejudices based on race but want to be part of the change.”

Session 4 will be held on April 22 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. also in the CUB Ballroom, and will be available for anyone who has attended or participated in Session 2 or 3.

Iuliano then linked to the Conversations for Change website for more information, and thanked the College for their engagement and support.
