NCAA Division III Championship: Gettysburg Bullets Knock Out Manhattanville to Stay Alive

Yesterday, the Gettysburg Bullets’ Women’s Volleyball team defeated the Manhattanville Valiants 3-0. The match was played in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, and was the first for the Bullets in the NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship. Winning each set, the Bullets displayed their dominance on the court throughout the entire match.
Gettysburg led in every aspect of the game. Starting the match strong with a 25-12 win in the first set, the Bullets showed they were playing to win. They totaled 14 kills against the Valiants’ eight and only reported one error compared to Manhattanville’s five.
The Bullets crushed the Valiants 25-14 in the second set, performing better on the stats sheet. Gettysburg had 13 kills and only one error against Manhattanville’s seven kills and nine errors. The third set was similar with a final score of 25-13. The Bullets had 10 kills and four errors while the Valiants had six kills and eight errors.
Gettysburg’s offense was imposing, with many players shining on the court. With eight kills each, outside hitter Erin Gonzalez ’27 and outside/opposite side hitter Catherine Holtz ’25 led the Bullets. Middle hitter Mary Huegel ’26 obtained three aces to lead Gettysburg. Assists were also a major factor in the game, showing how well the Bullets work together. Setter Kendall Erpenbeck ’26 led with 14 assists and setter Halle Feth ’27 came behind her with 11.
Leading the Gettysburg defense was Holtz with 4.0 blocks and Huegel was right behind her with 3.0 blocks. Defensive specialist Nala Shearer ’28 played an impressive game with 10 digs.
The Gettysburg Bullets have an overall record of 24-5 and a conference record of 7-3. They will play their next game today, Nov. 22 at 4:30 p.m., against Middlebury College for their second game in the NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Tournament.
