Gettysburg’s men’s and women’s tennis teams were able to both put up wins against Muhlenberg this past Saturday in home conference matches. The women swept their competition, winning all nine matches, while the men were able to take all but one to win theirs.

Women’s

On the women’s side, the Bullets had no trouble handling their competition. Gettysburg won all three doubles matches by scores of 8-1. Avery Palandijan ’26 won her singles match 6-1, 6-0  and Gillian Rozenfeld ’24 shut out her opponent in both sets 6-0. Palandijan only lost one game in the match.

Although the match had already been won, the Bullets continued to dominate. Andrea Brazyte ’24 and Sarah Guistwite ’25 followed by winning their matchups in two sets as well. Guistwite only let up two games in the second set. To finish out the match for Gettysburg, Eden Levkov ’27 and Ellie Brignati ’26 were both able to shut out their opponents to win in two sets.

Men’s

The men’s team also put up an impressive performance over the weekend. Against Muhlenberg on Saturday, the second and third doubles teams won comfortably with scores of 8-1 and 8-4. Gettysburg took their only loss of the match when Muhlenberg handed the first doubles team a loss.

Tyler Blanz ’27 won the first singles match 6-0, 6-2. He was followed by Alex Kagan ’24, who swept his opponent. Adam Contract ’26 solidified a win in a tight match, as the second set went to a tiebreaker where he won 7-3.

The rest of the Bullets continued to show out. Mikey Fellman ’25 was met with a tough opponent that forced his first set into a tiebreaker, where he ultimately came out on top. He was also able to win the second set to clinch his match. Michael Zayneh ’24 shut out his opponent in both sets to get the win, and Ben O’Connor-Skloot ’27 only lost one of his games, winning both sets easily for the victory.

On Sunday, the men’s team faced Johns Hopkins. The Blue Jays swept the Bullets 9-0 and won every single match to knock the men’s team down to 2-2 in the conference. Contract held the closest to his Hopkins opponent, though ultimately lost both sets with scores of 6-3. Blanz, O’Connor-Skloot, Zayneh, and Fellman also had sets kept within three of their opponents.

Kagan spoke about his feelings towards the team’s performance thus far and looking towards the end of the season.

“The team has seen a lot of change within my four years. We’ve gone from bottom of the conference to fighting for a playoff spot this year. The program has seen immense improvement and I’m proud to be finishing my tennis career as a Gettysburg Bullet.”

Gettysburg only has a few matches left until their final duel match of the season against Washington College on Apr. 27.
