Gettysburg Baseball hosted its fourth annual “Take ALS Yard” 3v3 basketball tournament on Sunday, Jan. 28 to help raise money and awareness for Project ALS, which funds amyotrophic lateral sclerosis research.

The tournament included 20 teams, and around 70 people in total participated in the tournament, representing many different organizations on campus including women’s soccer, field hockey, men’s soccer, and more.

“Gettysburg’s a great place because so many different groups come together to support each other,” said “Take ALS Yard” coordinator Patrick Clementi ’24. “The support from all the groups means a lot to me and the other coordinators, Cole Wong [’24] and David Preziuso [’24].”

The Marksman defeated the Foot Fairies in the championship of the men’s bracket and the ARPS won the women’s bracket. Each first-place team received a $50 gift card and the second-place teams earned a $30 gift card.

More importantly, during the 3v3 basketball tournament, Gettysburg baseball raised $600 from signups and $200 from merchandise.

The Gettysburg baseball team has managed the “Take ALS Yard” campaign since its creation by former head coach John Campo in 2013. In just over a decade, the team has raised $140,000 for Project ALS.

The campaign was started in memory of Tommy Kirchhoff and Robert Borman, who held and continue to hold a special place in the hearts of the Gettysburg baseball community.

“Our goal for this year’s campaign is to raise $12,000, which is a $2,000 increase from last year,” said Clementi. “We are selling shirts and hats and also collecting donations for Project ALS.”

Please check out the Take ALS Yard website to learn more about the initiative and consider visiting Project ALS to donate.
