Bullets’ Hoops Dominate Red Devils

By Charlie Miller, Staff Writer

Gettysburg basketball swept Dickinson in double-digit victories this past week. The women defeated a previously undefeated Red Devils squad 68-38 on the back of excellent three-point shooting and stifling rebounding and defense. Later in the evening, the men’s team battled with Dickinson and came away with a 62-48 win.

Women’s

Gettysburg controlled the game early in the first quarter, with five straight threes from Alayna Arnolie `26. Dickinson and Gettysburg went back and forth at the beginning of the contest, with Shinya Lee `25 and the Red Devils’ Mia Chapman starting strong. The two traded layups continuously throughout the quarter, but Lee showed why her interior presence has been key for the Bullets’ success. Eventually, Gettysburg began to pull away when Arnolie and AB Holsinger ’26 each splashed threes. Dickinson could not find the basket, and the Bullets’ rebounding and ball movement took over. They finished the first half with a 45-29 advantage, as they fought off a Red Devils’ counterattack at the start of the second quarter. In the second half, when Dickinson forwards tried to use their height to cut the lead, Arnolie followed with a three, while Caitlyn Priore `24 converted foul shots to end the Dickinson run. Priore’s strong free throw shooting, rebounding, and defense have been key to Gettysburg’s strong start this season. Arnolie’s success behind the arc has also been a major boost this year. The Bullets put the game out of reach in the 4th quarter to walk away with a 68-38 home victory. They will not return to the court until December 29th in the Jim Meagle Holiday Classic against Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.

Men’s

The men similarly found themselves in a back-and-forth matchup during the first half, as Akim Joseph ’25 and Nate Williams ’26 led the Bullets’ attack. Joseph scored 25 points, a career-high, grabbed seven rebounds, and forced three steals. The 6’6 junior from Port-au-Prince used his height and agility to drive to the rim and could prove to be a dominant big man combination with Ryan McKeon `24. McKeon led the Bullets in rebounds with eight boards, extending his team lead to 8.3 per game. Williams and Carl Schaller `25 hit several key threes in the second half, which prevented the Red Devils from getting within striking distance. Williams had a nice showing with twenty points and continued his strong sophomore campaign. He is averaging over 11 points per game, second on the team. The Bullets will return to action on December 29th in the Stevens Holiday Tournament against WPI in Hoboken, New Jersey.

Overall, it was an impressive showing from Gettysburg basketball against a Centennial Conference foe.
