Gettysburg Men’s Tennis Plays in Intercollegiate Tennis Association Tournament

Gettysburg Men’s tennis competed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association tournament hosted by the University of Mary Washington this past weekend from Friday, Sept. 29 to Sunday, Oct. 1.

Michael Zayneh ’24 and Matt Porreca ’27 started the morning for the Bullets by competing in the B1 doubles group at 8:45 a.m. They lost 8-1 in the Round of 16 to a talented Virginia Wesleyan duo, who also put up a valiant fight against the B1 doubles finalists from Averett University. 

Gettysburg found more success in the B2 doubles group. Owen Kutlu ’27 and Adam Contract ’26 went on an impressive run, and managed to beat Saint Mary’s College of Maryland and Catholic University, but eventually fell 8-4 to Hampden-Sydney College in the final.

Mikey Fellman ’25 and Alex Kagan ’24 competed in the championship doubles group. After a bye in the Round of 64. They ultimately lost to Shenandoah University by a close score line of 8-5 in the Round of 32.

Contract again returned to action and competed in the B2 singles group. He beat Tadeo Asprella of Goucher College 8-3 in the round of 16 but lost to Mary Washington’s Drew Campbell 8-4 in the quarterfinals. 

Zayneh also returned to action and beat Sebastian Sierra of Lynchburg College 8-2 in the B3 Singles group in the Round of 16, but then lost to Soren Rudin-Aulenbach 8-0 in the next round.

In the Championship Singles group, Fellman lost to Joshua Kim of Johns Hopkins University in the East Round of 16, as he fell 6-4 in the first round and 6-2 in the second round. Fellman lost again in the second round of the consolation group to Carnegie Mellon University.

Gettysburg Men’s tennis returns to action at Messiah University on Friday, Oct. 6 at 4 p.m.
