On Sunday, Sebastian Garcia’s senior recital was held in Paul Recital Hall. Garcia was accompanied by Dr. Scott Crowne on piano. Garcia sang songs in English, Spanish, Italian and French.

The performance began with “Strike the Viol” an ode composed by Henry Purcell. Garcia performed Vincenzo Bellini’s arrieta “Vaga Luna” next. The “Vaga Luna” is characterized by its use of the Bel canto style. The recital continued with “Spirate Pur Spirate” composed by Stefano Donaudy and “Del Cabello Mas Sutil” by Fernando Obrador. Paolo Tosti’s light yet joyful “A Vucchella” followed. Next, Garcia performed “Le Colibri” composed by Ernest Chausson, a song that contains delicate notes and arpeggios.

The next piece was Edward Kilenyi’s “Pregúntale A Las Estrellas.” “Canción De La Infanta” composed by Pauline Viardot followed. This song evoked various emotions with its use of multiple ranges. The recital continued with Kurt Weil’s “Lonely House.” Next, Garcia performed three songs from William Bolcom’s 24 cabarets, which were “Fur,” “Amor,” and “Can’t Sleep.”

Garcia’s recital ended as he performed “Vainement, ma bien aimee” composed by Edouard Lalo and “Call Me Irresponsible” composed by Jimmy Van Heussen with lyrics by Sammy Cahn.

Garcia commented on what it felt like to have his recital completed.

“I feel really relieved, and I’m really satisfied with the performance, and I’m really glad to everyone who came,” Garcia said.

Garcia also reflected on his experience at Gettysburg.

“I’ve been really grateful to Gettysburg. It’s been an amazing, you know, four year ride,” Garcia said.

When asked which piece was his favorite to perform, Garcia said “[it would] definitely have to be the ‘Del Cabello Mas Sutil.’ I dedicated it to my grandmother.”

Ami Disla ’26 thoroughly enjoyed the performance.

“It was such a treat. I enjoyed every single part,” Disla said, “I really liked ‘Amor;’ ‘Amor’ was fun. I also really loved the ‘Lonely House;’ that one was really nice. I liked the variety of all the songs.”

Gisela Bramonte ’26 was also captivated by Garcia’s performance.

“I was really in awe of his stage presence and of his technique. You can tell that he was really confident in what he was performing, which I’m sure took a lot of dedication and practice and passion,” Bramonte said. “He was really inspiring.”
