On Sunday, applications for the Eisenhower Institute’s fall and full-year programs will open. These programs are open to all students, regardless of year or major, and have no cost. However, interested students must attend one of the information sessions hosted on April 3, 4, 10 and 11. Applications must be completed by April 16. Students are encouraged to contact the Eisenhower Institute with any questions.
Four programs will be offered in fall 2023: Inside Washington, Building America: Reinventing Education, Global Focus: Competing with China and Foundations of Strategy and Leadership.
Inside Washington seeks to provide students with a greater understanding of the role politics play in U.S. policy. This program will introduce participants to the major actors within policymaking and their relationships with one another. Those selected to participate will have several opportunities for networking, including visits to Washington, D.C.
Building America: Reinventing Education provides participants with opportunities to explore how the COVID-19 pandemic affected K-12 education. This includes discussions about various policies surrounding the pandemic and education as well as the development of a plan for the last year of recovery funding from the Elementary and Secondary Schools Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund.
Global Focus: Competing with China allows students to study the political, economic, and social history of China, focusing on China’s governmental roots and how its decision-making processes have evolved. Through engagement in small-group discussions and exercises with experts, including Kevin Nealer of The Scowcroft Group, participants will learn about several emerging economies and prominent nations, as well as the conflict and collaboration between these nations.
Led by Eisenhower Institute expert-in-residence Susan Eisenhower, Foundations of Strategy and Leadership both enlightens participants about strategy and leadership in the current world and calls them to reflect on Normandy as the turning point in World War II. Students may participate in this program and others at the same time.
The Eisenhower Institute is also offering three year-long programs: Environmental Leadership, Eisenhower Institute Undergraduate Fellows and Eisenhower Institute Fielding Fellows.
Environmental Leadership affords students the opportunity to travel to the border between the U.S. and Mexico to gain a better understanding of the effects of pollution, inequitable access, and divisive politics on ecosystems and agriculture.
Eisenhower Institute Undergraduate Fellows allows rising senior participants to analyze public policy while developing their leadership skills. In this program, students will complete a year of research focusing on the advantages, drawbacks, and implications of technology in the workplace.
Eisenhower Institute Fielding Fellows enables rising senior students to study in-depth the executive branch, separation of powers, constitutional law, and diplomacy through the completion of a Diplomacy Lab project, which advises the U.S. State Department on foreign policy issues. The program is led by Associate Professor of Political Science and Director of the Fielding Center Scott Boddery.
In the fall, applications for the spring 2024 programs will open. The following programs will be offered: Strategy and Leadership in Transformational Times, Emerging Threats in National Security, Building America: Affordable Housing, Global Focus: Europe’s Heartlands, Gender and Leadership, and Inside Civil Rights.
