On Thursday, class of 2023 Vice President EJ Gill ’23 announced via email that the Student Commencement Speaker Selection Committee chose Anna Benson ’23 as the 2023 student commencement speaker.
“It is an honor to be part of such an important day and speak in front of the people who have made this experience what it is,” said Benson. “I will always appreciate my four years at Gettysburg and the incredible opportunities it has brought, so speaking at graduation feels like a beautiful culmination of my time here.”
Gill’s email shared that Benson majors in public policy, Spanish, and international & global studies, and she is from Lexington, Massachusetts.
During her time at Gettysburg, Benson has served as the program coordinator for College Prep and an immersion project leader with the Center for Public Service, a Washington Summer Fellow with the Eisenhower Institute, a peer learning associate for the Spanish Department, a student senator, the philanthropy chair for Alpha Delta Pi, and chapter president for the Sigma Iota Rho International Studies Honor Society.
Following graduation, Benson explained that she plans “to travel to Spain to work as a language assistant through the NALCAP program with the Education Office of the Embassy of Spain.”
Benson continued, “I hope to make people feel proud of the community we have built as a class, and reflect upon our growth throughout college during my speech. I want my words to speak to the Gettysburg experience in a way that everyone has something they can connect to.”
