By Clinton Baugess, Secretary of Iota of Pennsylvania Chapter
The Iota of Pennsylvania chapter of Phi Beta Kappa inducted 34 new members into the chapter on Friday, March 24 in Mara Auditorium.
The Iota chapter was chartered at Gettysburg on January 11, 1923. In celebration of its 100th anniversary, a banquet in The Atrium immediately followed the induction ceremony. President Iuliano spoke to congratulate the new members on their accomplishment. The featured speaker was Dr. Lynn Pasquerella, president of the American Association of Colleges and University, who delivered a talk on the role of liberal education in a post COVID-19 world.
In honor of the late Dr. Charles H. Glatfelter, a former chapter president, the Iota chapter awarded the Charles H. Glatfelter Phi Beta Kappa Leadership Prize to Deirdre Sullivan for their exemplary accomplishments in a scholarly endeavor and their contributions to the intellectual life of the Gettysburg College campus.

Phi Beta Kappa, founded in 1776, is the oldest and most prestigious academic honor society in the United States. Gettysburg College has sheltered a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa since 1923 and has inducted nearly 3,500 members. Phi Beta Kappa currently includes 293 chapters at American colleges and universities.
