Bullets Baseball Notches Five Wins over Spring Break Florida Trip

By Ben Simon, Staff Writer

During Spring Break, the Gettysburg Bullets baseball team played a series of games in Florida for the Florida Coast Spring Training Tournament, and came out of it with a clean five wins against three losses.

“The coaching staff was extremely proud of the way our team competed and we continue to improve and learn more about our squad as we get closer to Centennial Conference,” head coach Cory Beddick said.

Beddick further explained that the offense of the team is the engine that will push it towards sustained positive momentum, and with consistent defense and solid pitching performances, the team appears hungry to win.

“We have one goal in mind this year and that is a Centennial Conference Championship,” said infielder Preston Toothman ’23. He stated that he feels this is not out of reach due to the tremendous amount of depth that the team supports. Toothman himself has had a great start to the season, sporting a .317 batting average in 11 games played.

Although the team experienced some trouble in the middle of the trip, with Toothman admitting that they “went through a little bit of a scuffle losing to two good teams in Wheaton and Elizabethtown on Tuesday and Thursday,” expectations and efforts remained high, which surely was helped by their subsequent victories over Northwestern and Theil to close out the trip.

“We went into this season with a lot of confidence…with our great roster and our new coaching staff we know we are going to do some damage in the Centennial Conference this year,” Toothman continued.

If the season continues on such a high note, Toothman’s words might prove to be an understatement.
