On Wednesday, the Center for Global Education hosted a “Let’s Talk Study Abroad” event in the College Union Building Ballroom from 4 to 6 p.m. The event was for prospective students interested in studying abroad.

Students who studied globally in a vast array of countries were available to answer questions and reflect on their experiences. They encouraged interested students to take advantage of the opportunity that CGE presents.

While learning more about studying abroad, students enjoyed refreshments from the represented countries at the event.

Marielle Bikoff ’24 studied abroad in Australia last semester and shared what that meant to her.

“Studying abroad is absolutely an experience like no other. The opportunities and experiences gained are life-changing, and I will cherish the memories I made for a lifetime,” Bikoff said.

Other students also emphasized how studying abroad is a once in a lifetime experience, and it helps students make new friends and learn about a new culture. They explained how studying abroad helped them prepare for future work experiences.

Thomas Lynch IV ’24 said, “I would encourage people to study abroad because it really opens your eyes to the possibilities of work environments and experiences across the world that you cannot get in America.”

Grace Bobeck ’23 shared similar thoughts.

“I had a new perspective on life and career goals when I went to [Berlin, Germany] and made a lot of long lasting friendships that I’ll have for the rest of my life,” said Bobeck.

Other students discussed how studying abroad helped them mature and live on their own.

“[Going abroad] got me out of my shell, and it proved to me that I could really function alone and come into adulthood,” said Kay Brackett ’23.

Brackett shared that she views London and Manchester as additional homes she will always have and be welcome in due to her wonderful experiences.

CGE advisors and professors were also in attendance to chat with students and encourage them to study abroad.

Professor of Art History Felicia Else is coordinating the London Seminar for CGE’s Study Abroad in England program. The seminar is titled “Curating London,” and she described it as “a rollercoaster of new experiences.”

The deadline to submit a Global Study Application to CGE for the Fall 2023 Global Study Semester is Mar. 1.
