Campus Safety Alerts Student Body About Arson in Musselman Hall

By Alli Dayton, Managing/News Editor

On Monday, Oct. 10, Executive Director of Campus Safety Alex Wiltz sent out a campus-wide email detailing an attempted arson that took place in Musselman Hall.

Wiltz wrote that “an unknown person poured an accelerant on the hallway carpeting and then lit the accelerant on fire.”

He noted that although the carpet is flame resistant, a small part of the carpet was damaged during the incident.

Wiltz reminded students to evacuate and call 911 if they see smoke or fire in a building they are in. He also asked that students contact Campus Safety if they see suspicious people or activities taking place.

Wiltz concluded his email by providing the phone numbers for the Gettysburg Borough Police Department (717-334-1168) and Campus Safety (717-337-6911).

He also explained the definition of arson for crime reporting purposes, which is “any willful or malicious burning or attempt to burn, with or without intent to defraud, a dwelling house, public building, motor vehicle or aircraft, personal property of another, etc.”
