Campus Safety Email Announces Changes in Policy and Safety Procedures

By Katie Oglesby, Editor-in-Chief

On Friday, Executive Director of Campus Safety Alex Wiltz sent out a campus-wide email informing students of changes to Campus Safety and reminding students of important information leading into the semester.

Wiltz said Campus Safety staff will be available in the Campus Safety office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 51 W Stevens St. If a student needs them outside of these hours, they are advised to call them at 717-337-6911.

Among the updates, Wiltz informed students that if they lock themselves outside of their residence hall rooms, they should call Campus Safety rather than coming to the office. An officer will meet the student at their room and the student will be required to show their key to the officer. If they don’t show their key to the officer, Campus Safety will submit a lock change.

As well, beginning this semester, students will only be able to access their own residence hall. If they are visiting another residence hall, a resident will have to meet them at the door to let them in. Wiltz said Campus Safety implemented this change to improve residence hall security.

Students are advised to register for a parking pass in CNAV. Students will be notified to pick these up at the Campus Safety Office during their office hours after the request is processed. From Aug. 24 to Aug. 30, Campus Safety will be open until 10 p.m. to allow students to pick up their parking passes.

Campus Safety has also reduced the amount of student parking passes to two. The passes will allow for general parking in the lots on the west side of campus or Carlisle Street parking; the distinction will vary based on residence hall assignments.

Campus Safety will host a number of events at the beginning of the semester:

  • Fire and Ice (fire extinguisher training and ice cream): Friday, Aug. 26, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Campus Safety Office
  • Coffee with Campus Safety: Saturday, Aug. 27, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Campus Safety Office
  • Student Activities Fair Live Burn: Wednesday, Sept. 14, 6 p.m. on Stine Lake
  • Campus Safety Day: Thursday, Sept. 22, 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
