By Victoria Staub, A&E Editor
On Friday, February 18, The Sunderman Conservatory of Music presented “Sunderman at the Movies.” This event, held at the Majestic Theater, included performances from the Sunderman Conservatory’s Symphony Orchestra and Wind Symphony with each group performing for approximately one hour. This event featured music from a variety of films, appealing to attendants of all ages.
The Symphony Orchestra, conducted by César Leal, performed first with three pieces: “Symphony No. 7 in A major, op. 92: II. Allegretto,” “Má Vlast. II. Vltava (the Moldau)” and “Music from Frozen.” The “Frozen” performance featured children squealing in joy and some light singing along from some audience members.
Following the magnificent performance from the Symphony Orchestra, the Wind Symphony began its performance with the 20th Century Fox Fanfare, immediately grabbing the attention of the audience. Conducted by Steven Marx, the Wind Symphony performed “Disney at the Oscars,” a piece which included sounds from “Alice in Wonderland,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Mary Poppins,” and more. Following this was “Skyfall” from the James Bond movie of the same name, a “West Side Story” medley, the theme for the “The Incredibles – Part 1,” “The Time Warp” from “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” and finally music from the 9 Episodes of the “Star Wars” Saga.
This night was filled with incredible talent and guest performers, such as professors, Gettysburg alumni, and even one savvy high school student. Visit the Sunderman Conservatory’s event page for details on upcoming events.
