The former Women’s and LGBTQIA+ Resource Center hosted a celebration on Oct. 3 to share its new name with the campus. After conducting a survey to determine the best name for the center, leaders within the resource center determined that they wanted to make a change. The resource center is now known as the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center, which fully represents the mission and values the center strives for.

That name received a majority of the votes within a survey sent to the campus community. The survey was sent out to receive feedback on how the center’s name could better represent its goals and purpose.

In a past email sent out to students and faculty, Director of the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center Amanda Del Gaudio said, “While we will continue to support and passionately advocate on behalf of women and our LGBTQIA+ community, given our Center’s notable growth in recent years—and, in turn, our programming’s evolution—our new name will enable us to unify our many offerings and resources.”

The celebration at Apple Hall included food, giveaways, and meaningful conversations. A slideshow ran in the background to offer attendees a chance to meet the program coordinators and office assistants who work at the center.

Del Gaudio said, “There are six program coordinators, and they help me in planning programs for the resource center. They also have regular office hours for when students come in. Also, there are four office assistants that only help with items around the office. We just finished our training, so everyone is prepared and excited and informed about all the resources we offer.”

The resource center also has new hours, which are different from those offered before the pandemic. Students who wish to utilize the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center can now do so by visiting the office on the first floor of Apple Hall from noon until 9 p.m.

Del Gaudio said, “Our goal now is to do events all over campus and make sure students know where we are.”
