Monday’s Student Senate meeting included an update about printers being returned into the library, logistics for committee meetings and the liaison program, and the passing of two amendments.

President Syd Quan ‘22 followed up on last week’s printer debacle with an update that four printers were installed in the basement of Musselman Library, near the vending machines. She explained that a printing attendant will be hired by the school to staff the printers and encouraged students to apply. In addition, she reiterated the need for more students to submit nominations for the Ralph Cavaliere Award recipient.

Vice President Colin Hughes ’23 highlighted a more formal and democratic process for nominating Affinity Group leaders: he will email clubs to allow them to nominate a leader. Hughes also highlighted the It’s On Us week of action, encouraging students to look out for tables and posters and check engageGettysburg for more information about events.

Treasurer Connor Heath ’23 gave the first budget update for the 2021-22 year. He reported that clubs are allotted $91,511 dollars. So far this year, clubs have spent $1,106.02, and the rollover fund is $73,684.54. Heath noted that the first Budget Committee Meeting will take place Friday at 2 p.m. in CUB 210A.

Senate committee meetings will start this week, and voting members must attend one per week. Committee meeting times and locations are available on engageGettysburg.

Alexandros Economou-Garcia ’22 mentioned the potential idea to change the amount of voting members allowed on the Inclusion Committee.

Director of Student Activities and Greek Life Jon Allen reminded clubs that they still have time to re-register on engageGettysburg. He also mentioned that staff in the Office of Student Activities and Greek Life will serve as liaisons for clubs, including Allen, Tori Gotwald, Paige Cook, and Trevor McClenon.

The Opinions Committee reported that they will be addressing textbook affordability. The executive board reminded students that the Garthwait Leadership Certificate registration will be open until Friday.

One student expressed a concern about not receiving emails from the mailroom regarding package arrivals. A student worker from the mailroom reminded students that it takes time to process mail, but that the email notification system problem was being addressed.

The final portion of the meeting saw two amendments that passed successfully. The Secretary of Senate is officially also Chairperson of the Senate Outreach Committee, and the Senator at Large positions will be proportionally distributed among each class.
