Both the men’s and women’s golf teams are kicking off their season strongly with the men’s team winning their first match and coming in second in their next match, and the women’s team placing fourth and second in their first two respective matches.

At the Elizabethtown Fall Invitational on Tuesday, September 14, at Hershey Country Club East in Hershey, PA, the women’s golf team took fourth place out of five teams with a total score of 378.

Mia Wilutis ’24 and Monica Solis ’25 led the Bullets, both carding an 89. With this score, they finished tied for 10th place out of their 29 competitors from Alvernia University, Catholic University, Drew University, and Lebanon Valley College. After missing last season due to an injury, Caroline Kurtt ’23 bounced back and tied for 19th by carding a 97 overall. Anne Harrower ’25 and Audrey Coughlin ’24 shot 103 and 107 respectively to round out the showing for the Bullets.

In the women’s next match at the McDaniel Invite at the Bridges Golf Club in Abbotstown, PA on Saturday, September 18, the Bullets took second out of seven teams scoring a total of 350. Stevenson University came out on top in the McDaniel Invitational.

Kurtt ’23 had a career-best score of 80 to finish third out of the 42 other competitors from Stevenson University, Marymount University (Va.), Franklin & Marshall College, Dickinson College, Cabrini University, and Ursinus College. Wilutis ’24 also had her lowest round in her second collegiate event with an 83 to tie for sixth place. Cam D’Amica ’22 placed 18th with a total score of 92, and Solis ’25 placed 23rd with a score of 95. Ella Zimmerman ’24 took 33rd place out of 42 with a 111.

Sophomore Mia Wilutis ’24 discussed her hopes for the 2021-2022 season.

“I think we have a very strong team and we are going to have a very successful season,” said Wilutis ’24. “We have a team of seven girls, and only two had played at the collegiate level, so the rest of us definitely were nervous going into our first tournament, but I think we all performed really well. Even after just competing in our third tournament, we have all made huge improvements not only in our game but also in our ability to comfortably play at the college level. I’m looking forward to continuing to see how each of us improves in our upcoming matches and how we finish the season overall as a team.”

The men’s golf team started their season victorious with their opening match at the Moravian Weyhill Classic at the Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, PA on Monday, September 13th, 2021. They clutched first place scoring 302.

Hayden Moffat ’22, Joseph Furlong ’23, and Daniel Suter ’25 all tied for third overall with 75s. Last season’s Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year, Cameron Deiuliis ’24, scored a 77 that tied him for sixth place. In his first collegiate debut match, Drew Hurley ’24 impressed and tied eleventh with a total score of 79.

The Bullets continue their strong start by placing second out of fourteen other teams at the Elizabethtown Fall Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the Hershey Country Club East in Hershey, PA with a score of 294. This match was the team’s lowest round in over two years, and all the Bullets shot a 75 or lower during the match. Furlong ’23 and Suter ’25 led the Bullets again in individual standings with a score of 73 to tie for sixth place. Moffat ’22 and Hurley ’24 were not too far behind and each had a round of 74 to tie for tenth. Deiuliis ’24 finished sixteenth with a final score of 75 in the round.

The men’s golf team has a new head coach in Jason Badecki for the 2021-2022 season. On the Gettysburg Athletic Page, Badecki stated his goals for the season.

“The goal is to build a nationally competitive program that is in the top 25 each year by finding and developing high character student-athletes,” Badecki adds. “We will hold our student-athletes to a high standard of excellence on and off the course and create a competitive culture.”

The women’s golf team is looking forward to competing at the Dickinson Invite on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 11:00 A.M at the Carlisle Barracks Golf Course in Carlisle, PA, and the Stevenson Invite on Monday, Sept. 27 at Piney Branch Country Club in Stevenson, MD. The men’s team’s next match is the Royal Lakes Fall Invitational, which is hosted by Oglethorpe University in Flowery Branch, Georgia over the weekend of Sept. 25-27. Each team hopes to continue their early success in their upcoming matches.
