This week in 1916, the orchestra held a concert in New Oxford. They had been practicing the music since early March. They also had a concert in Taneytown, MD, but they had to miss a concert and dance that weekend to go to Taneytown. On the trip back from Taneytown, one of the stagecoaches had a broken axle, so the students in that stagecoach had to stay at Taneytown in the hotel another night before they could return to campus.

This week in 1921, Gettysburg College held a newspaper convention. It highlighted the major college newspapers from the Middle Atlantic region, with over twenty schools being represented at the convention. Two of the Gettysburgian’s staff went to a conference in 1920 at Penn State, and suggested that Gettysburg College be used for the next convention. Many of the students on campus were excited for the activities surrounding this newspaper convention on campus.

This week in 1946, the college’s Sketching Club had been created. The founding members hoped the club could be a place for students to sketch still lives, landscapes, portraits, and models. Anyone who wanted to attend could use whatever media they preferred to use. Students could use some supplies the club had available for members to purchase. Both artists and professors were welcome to give demonstrations to the club. The meetings were held every Monday afternoon in Weidensall Hall.
