The Jaeger Center Is Open: Here’s How To Stay Active on Campus During COVID-19
By Kyle Miller, Staff Writer
With COVID-19 still among us, everything has not yet returned to a state of normalcy. The Jaeger Center, however, still has many opportunities for staying active on campus.
The schedule for the Jaeger Center is a bit different this year — the fitness center will be open from Monday to Thursday between 6:30 a.m. and 10 p.m. However, the gym will be closed briefly between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. and 3 p.m and 4 p.m. in order to sanitize the equipment. On Fridays, the gym will close for the day at 8 p.m., and on Saturday the gym opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 8 p.m. with one cleaning time between 2 p.m and 3 p.m. in the afternoon.
Live updates on the Jaeger Center website now allow students to be aware of how many people are currently using the gym’s services. Since only 50 students are permitted to work out in the fitness center at the same time, this is a helpful tool to see when the gym is open and not crowded during the day — especially if you live far away.
For those interested in swimming, the pool is now open. Students must make reservations so that it does not get too crowded and social distancing can be maintained. Pool hours vary daily, so please check with the athletic center to be sure about what times are available in terms of making a reservation.
Many different types of fitness classes are now available at the Jaegar Center and are currently being held in the multipurpose room. Bootcamp offers a full body workout that pushes your strength and endurance while other classes focus on abs, spin, yoga, Zumba, and strength and conditioning. For all of these classes you must reserve your spot on IMLeagues.com in order for the course to be COVID protocol friendly.
Make sure to be on the lookout for special events that the Jaeger Center offers periodically. In the past, there have been events like badminton, volleyball, and a dodgeball tournament.
The Dive is also back in business! If you missed getting a protein shake after a workout, that will no longer be an issue.
The Jaeger Center and campus recreation are offering many ways to stay active while also staying safe. Make sure to check out the Gettysburg website to see the full calendar of activities and opportunities.
