Virtual Programming for Accepted Students in Lieu of Get Acquainted Day

By Maura Breth, Staff Writer

The closure of many schools and businesses throughout the United States has brought about uncertain and unprecedented times in our lives, and Gettysburg College has not been immune. For many members of the graduating high school class of 2020, this also means uncertainty in their academic future and where they will be attending college this coming fall.

Since all Gettysburg College campus visits and events have been suspended due to COVID-19, alternative virtual methods have been implemented in order to remain connected with all accepted students and their families during this time.

While Get Acquainted Day, previously scheduled for April 18, will not be a campus centered event as it usually is, Gettysburg College has planned digital alternatives for the entire month of April. These opportunities include one scheduled for the actual day of Get Acquainted Day, as well as others that allow the college to keep accepted students and their families updated.

On April 18, various campus clubs and organizations will post content on their social media pages (Instagram, etc.) about their particular group by using the hashtag #gettysburgcollege or tagging the school @gettysburgcollege.

Other opportunities for virtual engagement aside from Get Acquainted Day involve:

  • Accepted student conversations: ways to connect with those in the admissions office at Gettysburg College, in order to learn more about campus and ask any questions. (Held for the rest of April, Monday through Friday 2-4 p.m.)
  • Virtual panels: give accepted students the opportunity to connect with current students, faculty, and other members of the Gettysburg community with panels centered on a wide variety of topics—from campus life to specific academic departments. (Held throughout the rest of April, typically on Mondays and Wednesdays at 4 p.m.)
  • Academic department presentations: listen to faculty members and current students who will discuss opportunities within their respective departments in order to learn more about prospective majors and minors offered here at Gettysburg College. (A few department presentations will be held each day, Monday through Friday until April 23rd)

In addition from these scheduled opportunities, accepted students and their families are always encouraged to reach out to the Admissions office, contact their regional representative with any questions or concerns, or visit the Class of 2024 accepted students page for more information.
