Welcome to the fifteenth edition of our “Great Work from Home” daily bulletin, an initiative of The Gettysburgian during this season of social distancing. Each morning, we will present a curated playlist, a favorite Gettysburg campus photo, and hometown spotlight, each submitted by a different Gettysburgian.
We are also issuing a new challenge this week: make your best attempt at baking Servo cookies from home, and share your results and your recipe here. Maybe one of you knows what the secret is!
In addition, you can look forward to a reading of Apotheosis, a play written by Madison Cramer ‘19 and directed by Katherine Scott ‘21, starring Hannah Kolarik ’20, Isaac Briggs ’20, and Gauri Mangala ’21, live on our Facebook page this Saturday, April 11 at 7 pm EST. Find our event on Facebook here.
This is a way to start our days together. We’ll present these features on Instagram, on our website, and, if you like, via email (see sign-up below). We’ll be reaching out to students, faculty members, and employees and asking them to share, and we invite you to do so too; find links to Google Forms for each of these recurring features at the bottom of the page.
As always, the most important part of this initiative is you. So tell us, what do you like? What don’t you like? What else would you like to see? Get in touch with the #GWFH team: editors@gettysburgian.com.
Also, please tell us how remote learning and working is affecting your day-to-day life. We would love to hear from new voices—students, staff, faculty, administrators, and friends of the college are welcome to fill out our form, and we’ll be in touch.
For now, we hope you enjoy today’s playlist, curated by President Bob Iuliano, today’s campus photo, courtesy of Emily Dalgleish ’22, and today’s hometown profile, by our own Editor-in-Chief Benjamin Pontz ’20, who comes from Strasburg, Pennsylvania.
Remember, you can take us out of Gettysburg, but you can’t take Gettysburg out of us!

“Here is our women’s rugby team in Lancaster after our game at F&M this past fall. We won and celebrated by getting some burritos. I love this team!”

Today’s Hometown Profile (#GWFHhometowns)
“My hometown of Strasburg, Pennsylvania (population 2,800) has a number of delightful civic organizations. Chief among them is the Strasburg Pool. I hate swimming, but I spend a lot of time at the pool every summer because it is a place where our community gathers. On Friday nights throughout the summer, my friend David and I (pictured) host poolside trivia in which we pose questions about literature, arts/culture, the sciences, history/politics, and, most importantly, Lancaster County. The winners get free slush puppies from the pool snack bar.”
