Welcome to the fifth edition of our “Great Work from Home” daily bulletin, a new initiative of The Gettysburgian during this season of social distancing. Each morning, we will present a curated playlist, a favorite Gettysburg campus photo, and something cool about someone’s hometown, each submitted by a different Gettysburgian. It is a way to start our days together. We’ll present them on Instagram, on our website, and, if you like, via email (see sign-up below). We’ll be reaching out to students, faculty members, and employees and asking them to share, and we invite you to do so too; find links to Google Forms for each of these recurring features at the bottom of the page.
As always, the most important part of this initiative is you. So tell us, what do you like? What don’t you like? What else would you like to see? Get in touch with the #GWFH team: editors@gettysburgian.com.
Much more to come, but, for now, enjoy today’s playlist, curated by Katie Madore ’20, today’s campus photo, courtesy of Sofia Mouritsen ’20, and today’s hometown profile, written by Pat McKenna ’20, who comes from Jefferson City, Missouri.
Remember, you can take us out of Gettysburg, but you can’t take Gettysburg out of us!

“I kept seeing this colorful bike around campus, and one day as I walked out of Glatfelter I saw it in a spot too pretty not to capture. So, to its owner: thanks!”

Today’s Hometown Profile (#GWFHhometowns)
When people ask where I’m from I always pause before answering with my adopted home – Jefferson City, Missouri. My family moved here when I started at Gettysburg 4 years ago and while it has always felt a little strange coming back to a place I did not grow up, I have managed to find something new and exciting to do almost every time I come back. One of the highlights, aside from seeing my family, is to see my dogs, Summer and Bailey. They are pictured above on the Katy Trail. The Trail is a really gorgeous stretch of old railroad tracks that has been converted to a biking and walking trail. As my time as an undergraduate winds down it feels almost fitting to be able to finish out with my family, people I have not had a lot of time to spend with over the last few years. But, in the meantime I will be trying to adjust to Zoom classes (whatever happened to Skype?) and looking forward to the time when I will be able to get back to campus and say a proper goodbye to the various Professors and staff members who have been incredible mentors and become friends over the last four years and who truly made Gettysburg a community worth missing.
