The Monday, Feb. 10 meeting of Student Senate commenced with the announcement that Alison Lashendock ’20 would be added in the empty slot of 2020 Senator.

Lauren Ahlquist, Director of Services and Communications for Facilities Services, came to present on the process of communication with the facilities department, as well as to answer any questions. Ahlquist walked through the process of filling out a facilities request, as well as spoke about RecycleMania, a National program running from Feb. 3 to March 28 that encourages the college to focus on recycling by weighing waste and comparing recycled materials and trash. Many students brought forth questions to Ahlquist regarding issues with laundry units, reporting ruined garments out of washing machines. Ahlquist urged students to not over load units, but to also reach out to facilities if issues persist.

Nick Redman ’12, Associate Director of Alumni Relations, and Jacob Henkoff ’11, Assistant Director of Annual Giving, spoke to students about the upcoming “GettysburGives” challenge, a 36-hour challenge to receive as many donations as possible for the college. They encouraged students to donate to the challenge and to acknowledge it on social media. In an attempt to empathize with the financial struggles of current students to donate to the college, Redman acknowledged that he was still paying off his loans to the college, which was met with some groans from the room.

Biosphere came with a budget request of $2,582.95 going towards its full semester slate of events and was allotted the full amount. PRISM came with a budget request of $1,030 to bring a drag queen, Monique Heart, to campus for Spring Fest. PRISM acknowledged that the college was helping in the cost of the bringing the performer, as well as named Black Student Union as a co-sponsor, and was allotted the full amount.

Student Senate will reconvene on Monday, Feb. 17.
