On Feb. 15, the annual Snowball dance took place in the CUB Ballroom. The event was hosted by the Campus Activities Board (CAB) and co-sponsored by Sigma Chi.

The theme of the night was “Evening in the Enchanted Forest,” featuring a chocolate fountain, fog machines, and a photobooth. This event was host provider, and several attendees got to take home souvenir cups.

Swing Dance Club met from 8 to 9 p.m. before the dancing commenced so that they could practice their swing moves in preparation for the night. The club offered free dance lessons to anyone who could stop by.

Of the lessons, Kelly Murphy ‘21, president of Swing Dance Club, said, “At the lessons, everyone had a great time learning the dance moves with their friends.”

“I always enjoy helping out with this part because it’s a relaxed environment where anyone and everyone can learn Swing Dance regardless of experience, and it’s always great to see people enjoying themselves when they learn something new,” she added.

Snowball took on a brand new look this year, since the Buzz Jones Big Band did not perform for the first time in years, and DJ Danny Ziegler ‘21 was in charge of music for the entire evening.

Some students who have regularly attended Snowball and the fall semester’s “Swingin’ in the Ballroom” event voiced disappointment in Big Band’s absence, which usually provided songs geared towards swing dance.

“I had a really good time, but I missed Big Band,” Katie Madore ‘20 said.

The Swing Dance Club provided a playlist of songs to be played throughout the event; club president Murphy was enthusiastic about the event.

“The Snowball itself was amazing,” she said. “I think CAB and DJ Danny Ziegler did a fantastic job setting everything up. I had a great time dancing and hanging out with my friends and I’m sure lots of other people did too.”

The night was as enchanting as the theme itself, and students were pleased that the college is continuing such a meaningful tradition as the annual Snowball.
