Senior Spotlight: Ian Schrock

As men’s swimming continues to aim for a perfect season, senior captain Ian Schrock hopes to continue his success from the first part of the season. Schrock ended the fall semester with a third-place finish in the Gettysburg Invitational 200 meter backstroke.
He fell in love with the sport through lessons and competitions at the age of six. At nine years old, Schrock decided to join an all year-round team to become a successful competitive swimmer.
Schrock has been a member of the Gettysburg swim team since his first year and has always completed the traditional pre-meet routine of dynamic stretching and light swimming in the pool. However, the team pre-meet traditions are what motivate Schrock.
“The captains, Ty Dougherty and I, talk to the men’s team in a huddle and kick the meet off with our traditional cheer. After 4 years, it still pumps me up,” he said.
In his college career, Schrock has enjoyed the close relationship with the team.
“The guys’ team here at Gettysburg specifically has a great sense of humor. We are always poking fun at each other and laughing in the locker room, on deck, or outside of the pool,” said Schrock.
After finishing his final season, Schrock is going to miss joking around with the team every day and being involved in a competitive sport. “I’ll also miss being able to eat anything I want. Gonna have to be careful if I don’t want to balloon up in retirement.”
Schrock and the Bullets will compete next at Mary Washington on Saturday.
