The matchup is set for Super Bowl LII, and, given the high concentration of Gettysburg students from the northeast, it is likely to interest a great deal of the campus community that the Philadelphia Eagles will meet the New England Patriots in a rematch of 2005’s Super Bowl XXXIX. However, this is the first Super Bowl in the “post-cable era” at Gettysburg College now that cable television service is no longer available in residence hall rooms on campus. Nevertheless, here are four ways you can still watch the Super Bowl at Gettysburg.
Game Details
Matchup: Philadelphia Eagles vs. New England Patriots
Date: Sunday, February 4
Kickoff: 6:30 p.m.
Venue: U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota
TV: NBC
The Attic
The Campus Activities Board (CAB) will sponsor a viewing party at The Attic beginning at 6:00 p.m. The game will be projected on a large screen, and pizza and wings from Blue & Gray will be served, Attic coordinator Kelly Tinkham ’18 said. The event is free for college students; it is not host-provider. The Attic is located on the second floor of the West Building behind Jaeger Center.
Common Room
Cable television is still available in many residence hall common rooms across campus including in first-year residence halls and some houses. A full list of common rooms where cable television available can be found on the IT website.
Stream the Game Online
NBC will stream the game online via NBCSports.com as well as through its mobile apps. Various other streaming options are also available. Using a laptop or other compatible device, students can plug this feed into a television in their residence hall room and watch it as they would have any other year. HDMI cables are also available via G-Tech, which is in the West Building. Dr. Rodney Tosten, Vice President of Information Technology, advises students to go to G-Tech soon if they want an HDMI cable to watch the game. “IT will have HDMI cables but I would recommend students checking early since we do not keep a large number of them in stock. We order them as demand suggests,” Tosten said.
Go Off Campus
Obviously, there are no shortage of off-campus opportunities of all flavors at which to watch the Super Bowl from people’s homes to bars and restaurants. Chances are that if a venue has a television, it will be tuned into the game. Of course, if choosing this option, exercise good judgment with respect to consuming alcohol and operating motor vehicles (i.e. don’t).
Enjoy the game!
