Senior Danny Thompson has made a return to his old role as quarterback for his final season as a Gettysburg College Bullet.

Serving as wide receiver since the 2014 season, Thompson has been seen across various parts of the Musselman Stadium field. This season, with the loss of quarterback Sam McDermott to graduation, Thompson and junior Justin Davidov have shared the quarterback title in the beginning games.

In the Centennial Conference opener against Ursinus College Saturday, Thompson went 10-of-15 for 200 yards.

Thompson’s passes to sophomore Matt McFadden in the first quarter and to sophomore Johnny Davis in the second quarter earned him two touchdowns under his name. These passes helped the Bullets to Beat the Bears 42-17, marking their first win of the season.

Gettysburg ranks fifth in the conference based on the beginning season performances.

Thompson also encouraged 58 yards of rushing.

An active member of the team since his first season on campus, Thompson makes strong impacts on the team. He has served as quarterback in part of each game this season.

In Gettysburg’s season opener against Bridgewater College, Thompson racked up 138 offensive yards, throwing a touchdown pass while also scoring a rushing touchdown.

It is still unclear who will earn the title of lead quarterback, as Thompson and Davidov continue to split time on the field, but Thompson’s success at the line has not gone unnoticed.

With 18 passes completed, 37 attempts and zero interceptions thus far, Thompson’s senior season is looking to be a strong one.

Congratulations to Danny Thompson for being The Gettysburgian’s Athlete of the Week!
