I definitely do not say this after every great movie I see or anything, but “Carrie” is officially my new favorite film. Stephen King, author of the original novel, certainly knows how to drag you into an enticing plot, and this movie remake achieved the same result.

Personally, remakes tend to disappoint me because nothing ever seems to compare to the original work.

“Carrie” was the perfect exception to the rule, from start to finish. My eyes were glued to the screen to the whole time! Luckily, I had won three stuffed animals from the claw machine because I really needed something to comfort me through the suspense!

“Carrie” plays skillfully into all of the audience’s emotions;  there were also points where I could not wipe the smile from my face, or I needed to wipe a tear from my eye. One of the most moving moments was when Carrie shrieks, “I hate her!” when talking about her mother. The rawness of the moment could be felt palpably through the screen.

Chloë Moretz did a phenomenal job playing Carrie, as her portrayal was both relatable and intriguing. Throughout the story, she struggles with bullying and an abusive household however (spoiler alert), but you can only push a person so far before they decide to kill everyone at prom.

I highly recommend seeing “Carrie” before it leaves theatres, because it is a necessary escape from coursework, as it will absorb you straight into another world!

But before you go, hit up the claw machine and grab a buddy—you are in for a scare!
