Fashion police take aim at Grammy Awards attendees

Although CBS sent an email delineating a strict dress code to the guests of the Grammy Awards this year, according to “US” magazine, stars still opted for sexy slits, crazy cleavage and chic sheer attire at the Staples Center in L.A., Sunday, Feb. 10.
The email read, “Please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered. Thong type costumes are problematic. Please avoid exposing bare flesh under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic,” US reported. “Please avoid sheer see-through clothing that could possibly expose female breast nipples. Please be sure the genital region is adequately covered so that there is no visible ‘puffy’ bare skin exposure.”
It can be justified why some stars chose to break rules—they looked hot! Others, however, should have stuck to the guidelines, for both the sake of the Grammy Awards viewership and their own dignity. Here’s a list of the best and the worst dressed on the 2013 Grammy Awards red carpet.
Best:
Kelly Rowland,
former Destiny’s Child member, wore audacious cutouts in a sleek black Georges Chakra Couture dress, Sunday. She violated a number of rules, tightly revealing ample cleavage, underboob, her stomach and thighs behind a translucent material. In her defense, however, her dress was sheer and did not make visible “bare skin.”
Rihanna
chose to ignore the “please avoid sheer see-through clothing” note in CBS’s memo, wearing a bold red Azzedine Alaia gown that exposed her nipples. It’s difficult to complain, however, as the singer looked far better rocking a red dress than the red hair from previous years.
Taylor Swift
styled a white J. Mendel gown, reminiscent of a Greek goddess, with a long braid, Sunday. If her opening “We are Never Ever Getting Back Together” performance mocking ex-boyfriend Harry Style’s British accent suggests heartbreak, her sexy red carpet choice, at the very least, confirms her confidence, as her entire back is open; the country-pop star is certainly trying to get over the breakup, and she’s doing a damn good job.
Carrie Underwood
opted for a strapless black Roberto Cavalli gown that seemed a bit too harsh for the country star. Though her loose, graceful hair that fell upon her shoulders and the elegant necklace eased her image, creating a simply exquisite look.
Katy Perry
seems to always draw everyone’s attention to her incredible breasts, whether they are decorated as cupcakes, spewing whipped cream or adorned with floral jewels. She wore a mint green Gucci dress that paraded her serious cleavage with a jaw-dropping, floral, embellished cutout.
Worst:
Kat Dennings,
the “Two Broke Girls” star, evidently anticipated a boring show, since she chose to wear bubble wrap, perhaps for entertainment if the night grew dull. The strapless Vivienne Westwood dress exposed heavy cleavage, which could have been sexy if she hadn’t worn the package her dress arrived in, instead of the dress, itself.
D’Manti
thought she was at the beach, wearing a Claudio Milano black…dress? Or perhaps, she actually paid a visit to the beach prior to the show and had an unfortunate mishap with a fishing net.
Kimbra
chose to wear random spurts of turquoise tulle, jutting from her otherwise naked body, to the Grammy Awards this year. Stars have an evident infatuation with translucent clothing (a paradox in itself), and this one was a costume crafted by Jaime Lee Major.
Florence Welch,
otherwise known as the Loch Ness Monster, wore a glistening green Givenchy gown. She even grew spikes, or fins, on Sunday, which trailed her dress.
Kate Pierson
was unfortunately reported to be engulfed by the Purple People Eater this weekend. No further comments are necessary.
