Bullets win at Muhlenburg

The Gettysburg College wrestling team earned its first Centennial Conference victory of the season by defeating host Muhlenberg College 42-12 on Saturday. The Bullets also dropped a 28-10 decision to 20th-ranked New York University.
Gettysburg (5-16, 1-4 CC) began the day with a loss to the Violets. After forfeiting the first two bouts, the Bullets picked up two wins in a row as Junior Matt Spano (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) defeated DJ Albonico 3-2 at 141 and First-year Eddie Carroll (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) downed Richard Cruz by major decision (13-5) at 149.
NYU won five of the final six matches, including overtime wins at 165 and 184. Sophomore Zach Thomson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) accounted for the remaining Gettysburg win at 174 pounds, earning a 9-0 major decision over Chris Amro and improving to 22-2 on the year. Gettysburg took advantage of an out-manned Muhlenberg lineup to score its first Centennial decision of the year. The Mules forfeited four weight classes.
Spano and Carroll each added their second victories of the day against the hosts. Spano defeated Che Chengsupanimit 8-0 at 141, while Carroll earned a 3-1 decision over Matt Parker at 149.
Senior Joe Fiore (Hicksville, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) added a second-period technical fall (4:42) against Kyle Fox at 174.
Gettysburg resmes action at McDaniel College on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m.
